Many happy returns to Second Life from the Barkkorn.com family!
In celebration of their 10th year, Second Life, has a FREE limited edition Commemorative SL10B Avatar, complete with copy rights (sorry no transfer or modify rights).
You can get the avatar on the Marketplace. This avatar is made with some of the new Materials features and will look even better once that Materials Viewer launches (you can also check it out with the Materials Beta Viewer). The SL10B avatar will only be available until the end of June!
Also in honor of their 10th year, Second Life is holding a Snapshot Contest, with the top prize is free use of a homestead for four months, and second and third prizes are free use of a homestead for two months.
A Premium members grid-wide hunt will also be held later on this month, details TBA on the Linden blog.

Recently we re-developed a meeting/ Secondlife presence for our client
Lifenaut.com. We have been doing some “in world” Secondlife marketing to get the
word out about the Lifenaut’s free service with some success. We decided that it
may be a good idea to start hosting presentations of the service and how to use
it within Secondlife to interested inhabitants. We created this meeting center
for Lifenaut for this purpose. Below you will the outside view of the building
where the meetings are held…
When you enter the building you are in the seating/presentation area. This is
where you would sit and watch a movie, slide presentation or interact with
others and the presenters. We customized the building to suit the client’s
needs, landscaped the surrounding land and installed the presenter screen and
computer to run it. We also trained the clients to run the system and to be able
to present to their users.

Here we have an area set aside for small meetings/presentations, or for
people that may run the slides while the presenter talks or chats with the
audience…
Most recently the client used this area to hold their annual board of
directors meeting as this can be a very affordable and easy way for members that
live far from each other to collaborate, hold discussions and present to each
other.
Below is a snapshot of me (or at least an avatar of me) in Secondlife outside
the Lifenaut meeting area sitting on a fountain I setup. This is area is open to

I had recently heard of the museum opening from the SL blog entry by Pathfinder Linden, and as a fan of Wright’s architectural works, I was glad to be able to virtually visit them in Second Life.

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting the Robie house at University of Chicago in person, and can now revisit the experience, a few things were missing, but the building itself was pretty much the same.

They currently have the following buildings to tour:
- The Frederick C. Robie House of Chicago, IL,
- the Herbert Jacobs house 1 of Madison, WI;
- the Herbert Jacobs house 2 also of Madison, WI,
- The Edgar Kaufmann house of Mill Run, PA and
- the Seth Petersen Cottage of Lake Delton, WI &
- a recreation of the Water Dome foutain from The South Florida University of Lakeland, FL
They also plan to be adding additional Wright homes and buildings on a rotating basis

When i first created my Secondlife account several months ago, I didn’t have the best experience as my internet was slow and the grid had so much lag. So, I stopped using Secondlife and sold my original land plot.
However, now that I’m back in and want to explore the world further, I decided it was time to get another plot.
I just purchased a 512 sqm plot on Gurshi. My wife, Heavenly Barkkorn and I decorated the plot with items we accumulated.

I recently explored the use of Secondlife banks. While searching I found out about JT Financial (secondlife link) which is a fairly popular inworld bank that pays the best rate I’ve seen so far. Below is a description of their bank/rates from their website: jtfinancials.com…

Setup of accounts is very easy. You simply pay one of their atms and your account is automatically created. You can check you balances by typing /10 balance and withdraw money by entering /10 withdraw AMOUNT where AMOUNT is the amount you wish to withdraw. You can do you banking anytime 24 hours a day.
So far I have I have received regular desposits of my interest daily from JT Financial as advertised. I think they run a really good system and service… whenever I’ve gone to the main bank, there are always customer service people there to help.
However, since there is no insurance of any kind, you could potentially lose some or all of your money. The continued interest and as well as your principle being preserved is dependent upon JT Financial’s investments continuing to make money.
I believe the best strategy would be to spread your extra Lindens among several different respectable banks. I will be looking into other options to help diversify the risks.

I first entered “the grid” a few months ago and didn’t do too much as my internet access was slow and the grid itself seemed to have incredible lag issues.
I see now that the system seems more stable and now I feel more able to take advantage of the benefits of using the SecondLife system.
As a web developer, I see a lot of potential in merging the technologies of the standard web pages with secondlife technologies.
It has been said that the future of the internet is a Secondlife, or a metaverse environment… that maybe one day all browsers will function much like the secondlife world browser does now. Time will tell. The following is my journey into this world…
